I am a proud Kentuckian who loves to capture the raw moments, golden light, and adventurous love within couples and families. My work is tailored to each unique story of every client. You are not only getting just a photographer, but a friend who adores human interaction and the true honest emotion with every laugh, hug, tear shed, or stroke of touch. I crave to draw out that emotion artistically into each session and I thrive on the soulful moments of life that we are able to soak in.

Hi there, my name is India Tungate and I am the artist behind Story Book Photography. I am a wife and a mother. I say that first because my identity is found in my family. My husband, Wes, and I have been together for 12 years. We have had this awesome opportunity to watch each other grow up during our 20’s and I wouldn’t change a thing. I am so proud of where we are today and continue to strive towards the future together. He is my biggest cheerleader & supporter with this dream/business.

We have a 7 year old son named Kambryn, and a 5 year old daughter named Madylin. I have always wanted to be a mother, ever since I met Wes to be honest. I used to think that day would never come but in 2015 my world completely changed and I feel incredibly blessed every day for my two healthy, beautiful, sweet children.

My family instilled within me strong values, including a deep passion for Jesus. Being a Christian is a huge part of who I am as a mother, as a wife, and even as a photographer. I like being a creative for the creator. I owe it all to him. & I pray that this business can be my ministry too.

 Fun Facts:

  • I am currently working on writing my Debut Contemporary Romance Novel. My biggest writing inspiration is my Nana, Betty Peterson, who was always my biggest fan and who I would send stories to over the years. I miss her so much and my life hasn’t been the same since I had to say goodbye to her in 2020. I am dedicating my book to her.

  • In 2021 my husband and I was able to move onto our dream land. God left his fingerprint in every detail that lead up to the moment and he continues to move in inspiring ways. My dream is to serve God on our land somehow by bringing people together. I would love a gathering place as well as a photography studio on our property one day. I see big things happening - on his timing of course. I am learning to be patient. I love being able to have clients over and using our woods, fields, & creek front for photo sessions.

  • I’m turning into a Homesteader. I say turning because I was once a “City Girl”, well as city as you can get in Somerset, KY. I’ve found my heart in the simple living lifestyle as well as a slight obsession with chickens. I love all things farm life. Sometimes I like to gift my clients with a dozen of our colorful eggs.

  • I am a coffee lover, especially when it’s extra creamy with a little sweetness.

  • I love music! 9 times out of 10 I’ll probably be rolling up to a session with my 90’s & early 2000’s mix blasting. But I enjoy just about any type of music there is.

  • I am a homeschooling mama. This year I have been teaching 1st Grade to both of my kids. Homeschool is challenging and takes a lot of patiences but I am so honored to have the option to be my children’s teacher. A huge reason for that is this business, so thank you to everyone who chooses to support my little family and I. You are helping us to give our babies the life we’ve always dreamed of providing for them.

  • I have been known to laugh until I cry and snort. Things will get real and I’ll probably ask you deep questions —- you know, like which Office character you feel most connected to. Serious stuff like that.

  • I am a sucker for romance and I think that is why I absolutely love helping people capture and tell their love stories through photography. Give me all the Romcom Books, Shows, Movies, Songs, ect.

Where did my passion for photography come from?

When I was 11, I first discovered my love for photography. My mother bought me a standard film camera and that is when my passion was found. I was that girl with a camera glued to her hand. I snapped photos of everything I could. Anything I wanted to freeze in time to remember for years and years was exactly what I would photograph, plus some super embarrassing photos that I thought were hilarious back in the day (I think 50% of what I captured was me and my friends being goofy but sometimes those were some of my all time favorite memories captured). I never would had guessed that it would had become my career in life. It was always just for fun for me. One of those things that was good for my soul. A part of who I am.

I went to college thinking the medical field was where I belonged but after all of the (literal) blood, sweat, and tears I put into college and jobs that were just not meant for me, I quickly changed my path in life. I tried nursing, CNA work, physical therapy, psychology; I simply just wanted to help others. No matter what it was that I chose to do with my life, giving back to others is exactly what I wanted to do. Photography allows me to do just that. Especially with my Nonprofit, Reflections of Hope. & whenever God prompts me to help & serve others.

Photography came to me at a time when I needed it the most — It was like walking right into what I was created to do. It just fit me, my personality, and my strengths. It has me constantly thinking, changing, growing, and it makes me feel alive to know that tomorrow will never be the same day as today. I firmly believe that God created us to use our specific abilities and passions to bless others, no matter the industry, and I am certain this is mine. I went after it full stream in 2017, no questions asked, not a shred of doubt.

A little bit about my style

I have found that finding your photography style is like finding the perfect pair of jeans. You try on so many pairs and eventually you try on that perfect pair and you’re suddenly like, “Ahhhhhh that’s perfect!”. I found myself trying so many styles of photography in the start of my journey. Some of them just didn’t fit; I needed to find the style that fit me the most — and I finally have. I strive on connections. Whether is it a newly engaged couple, a Bride and Groom on their wedding day, the fresh moments of familihood, the love between a mother and child; anything that provides emotiveness is what I love to capture for my clients.

I am in a good spot, like when you get to that secure spot in a relationship. I know what I am really good at, I am confident in what I bring and the contribution I bring to your day and session. Many people don’t realize the impact the photographer has on how you feel, the energy present while you shoot, and the confidence you feel in yourself. Do they make pretty pictures, sure? But how do they make you feel? Do they give you an experience and make you feel special or comfortable? This is what my business is all about. Not just photographs but a fun and relaxing experience. You may not even realize it’s what you deserve with a photographer, but trust me —- you do! I want my clients to realize there is more that goes into you loving your photos and more than just hiring a photographer that takes good photos.

So what will the photos be like if you choose me as your photographer?

Your photos will be soulful, joyful, authentic, and candid. They will be filled with light, love and happiness. & They will help to capture your story.
