How to Choose Outfits for Group Photos | Central Kentucky Photographer

Listen – We’re not just “taking photos”, look at it as we are building a time capsule. We’re immortalizing a moment in time that you can revisit again and again for the rest of your life and your children’s lives, and your grandchildren’s lives (and so on and so on). The people you are today – the opinions you hold, the music you listen to, your weird eating habits – get lightly salted and spritzed with lemon (for freshness), packaged up, vacuum-sealed, and free-thrown into the capsule for your future selves to look back on and remember.

Intimate Maternity Session with the Simpsons | Kentucky Motherhood Photographer | Monticello, KY

YOU GUYS!!!!!!!! I am beyond excited to share these images with you all. When Shawna reached out to me to photograph a more intimate at home maternity session for her I wanted to scream for joy! This is the session to my heart. There is just something so magical about photographing a Mama connecting with her unborn child in a more raw form of skin to skin.

Have you ever heard of the amazing benefits that Skin to Skin care has not just for a newborn but for the mother as well?

Tipful Tuesday | Why I don’t do posed newborn sessions | At-Home Studio Newborn

NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ALL ABOUT POSING

Within the last two years I went through a big identity shift for my newborn work. I still photographed a few sessions in a more classic, posed manner, but at the same time I realized that more than perfect curly pose I preferred to capture the moments which tell the story. The story of joy, intimacy, and unconditional love.

Behind the Scenes: A Photographer’s Turnaround Time | Kentucky Photographer

Let’s take a peek behind the scenes and dive into what goes into a photographer’s turnaround time. Full disclosure: this applies only to me and my business, but I do tie in the practices of others to give you a sense of why everyone has different turnaround times. You will find that just like any business, all photographers choose to run their businesses differently.

Tipful Thursday | Why most photographers don’t give RAW images

When I first started my business, I used to get asked a lot if I would be willing to give my RAW files to a client. They thought that maybe it would give them a discount if they didn't need the photos edited along with a variety of other reasons. But this is something that I have been against since day one. I never liked the idea of handing out unedited photos for a few reasons, and this is why;

Kentucky Lifestyle Photographer | The Rivera Family | Richmond, Kentucky

2. When did you find out that he was the one for you? When was it for him?

I knew he was the one for me when I realized that we’d spent every single day together since our first date. It was a couple weeks since our first date (which was a Starbucks date lol) and it just hit me that we’d not spent a single day without seeing one another. I just realized then that he was my absolute best friend and that I wanted to spend all my time with him. We just got along so well and he just made life so much more fun and exciting.

Tipful Tuesday | Dads, You can trust me. | Kentucky Family Photographer

When I tell people that I am a family photographer, many people often comment that it must be so hard to photograph unwilling 2 years olds. While 2 year olds often have their own idea about how the session should go, I love their energy and am always happy to let them take the lead and follow along in a playful way.

You know which member of the family is the often the hardest? Dads.

The Birth of Asher Bumgardner | Kentucky Birth Photography

The birth of Asher was one of the most eventful births that I have attended. His Mom and Dad were more than ready to meet this beautiful little boy however Asher was comfortable in his mother’s womb. After a week over his due date, an induction was planned. We waited and waited for things to process and finally at 4:30am the following morning, I was called to be at the hospital. Once I arrived, within 30 minutes Asher’s mother began pushing. Little did we know that she would push for over four hours!

Bare Motherhood | Jessica + Ellie |Kentucky Motherhood Portrait Photographer

Below is a recent Intimate Motherhood Session that I had with Jessica and Ellie in my new at home studio. I absolutely love how these moments turned out and am so grateful for Jessica, who helped me create a gallery to show clients the images I would love to capture for mothers. Your babies will not be babies forever and each day they grow and change, way to fast for our hearts to bare. Their hands might not fit into yours the way they do today and those little details of daily life are so fleeting. That is why I am so passionate with photography, no matter what type of session I am helping to document, the real, raw, emotional, organic moments that make you and your loved ones special is what I love to focus on and preserve forever.

What do I do during the Photography Slow Season? | Kentucky Photographer | Tips For Photographers

Guess what friends, slow season is here and to be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with it! For most photographers, the winter months mean a lot less inquiries and emails and appointments to manage. Fall is typically such a crazy time as well as trying to schedule in those Christmas Card photos and many photographers look forward to those quiet, slow days where we can recover from ‘busy season’.

However, as most entrepreneurs, we must stay busy and after a few weeks (days, or maybe even hours!) of the slow life, we start wondering if anyone will ever hire us again, where everyone went, and just WHAT ON EARTH are we supposed to do with all of this TIME?!

I am here with fifteen ideas for things to keep you super busy during that slow season. Because if you are working ON your business during the times you aren’t working IN your business, there should never be a ‘SLOW’ season, just seasons for different parts of running your photography business! Right?
