A Birthday to Remember: Ephraim Turns One at Burnett Farms
There are sessions that stay with you long after you pack up your camera—and this was definitely one of them. I recently spent a golden evening with my dear friend Calli Burke and three of her six children, to celebrate her sweet baby, Ephraim, turning one years old. It was such an honor to be there for this milestone and help document all the love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
We started out in the vibrant fields at Burnett Farms, surrounded by rows of zinnias and towering sunflowers. Ephraim’s big sisters were all smiles as they explored the flowers. The colors were so rich and summery—perfect for capturing childhood in all its bright, carefree wonder. My favorite part of the evening was watching Ephraim dig into the most unique first birthday treat I’ve ever seen—a homemade Tomato Pie that Calli baked just for him. Well I say just for him but we all totally shared a bite and it was delicious. Instead of the traditional cake smash, we headed out into the tomato patch for what I can only call a Tomato Smash. It was the sweetest thing to watch: Ephraim’s little hands grabbing tomatoes, his eyes lighting up with curiosity, and that tomato pie turning into the best (and a little messy) birthday feast.
After all the fun (and a whole lot of tomato), we ended the session with a warm water bath in a little tin tub, bathed in perfect golden sunlight. It felt like something straight out of a magazine. These are the days that matter most. The ordinary moments that become treasured memories, and I feel so blessed to have been there to help preserve them.
